10 on the 10th: 10 Things You Have Always Wanted to Try or Do...

Friday, June 9, 2017

Note -- I apologize profusely for the technical difficulties with the blog this week.  Both with the confusion in the link up dates and the link up itself.  I hate letting you down, thanks for baring with me. xoxo ERIN

It's 10 on the 10th and when I made up this schedule, I thought this topic would be fun....but what was I thinking? What do I want to try or do?  So I opened it up to things you wanted to try and have done too ;).

Let's think of it as an adult bucket list since that seems to be a theme around this blog lately (our summer bucket list and my guide to creating bucket lists) ;).  So without further adieu, don't forget to link up and share yours.  I might need to add to mine after seeing yours - y'all are full of AWESOME ideas.

Here is my list in absolutely no particular order...

Write a children's book.

In my former life I was a first grade teacher so I have read my fair share of awesome kids books.  I have a couple of ideas floating around in my head but I just don't ever get it past my brain on to paper.  I also need an illustrator because I do not have that gift past stick people ;).   One of my favorite pastimes is reading books to my kids.  Lucy runs to her room when I say it's time to read a book.  I would love to pen one of my own (maybe about #10 on my list ;).

Learn how to play the guitar.

Scott and I both got a guitar from my parents for Christmas along with some books to learn how to play.  I think we need a little more accountability so I want to look into hiring someone to come teach us.  I always think its fun to sing songs as a family!

Go on a trip as a family of 5.

We travel a lot with extended family or to visit family but rarely do we get to just travel ourselves.  I really want to go on a family vacation, just the 5 of us (see #4).  What we find is that we don't plan and then other trips and visits take up our time and wallet so we don't do it.  We just need to plan something!

Visit Israel with our Family.

Scott's parents went on a trip to the holy land last year and came back with story after story about places they visited from the bible.  I can't imagine the bible coming more alive then visiting the very places Jesus, his disciples and others walked.   I want to take our kids when they are older!  Have you been?

Try para-sailing with Scott.

With all our trips to beach-type locales, I have never gone parasailing!  I really want to try.  I think it would be so fun to do with Scott!  Anyone tried it?

Run a 5K.

I am not a runner.  I have sports-induced asthma and for many years running caused flare-ups.  With careful training, I have now run up to 2.5 miles at a time.  I am legit scared to sign up for a 5k because those childhood memories of me blowing hot air running the mile run come back to haunt me but I want to do it!  I also don't like running with other people, because I think I will hold them back SO there's that too.  I need to run a 5K and face my fear!

Be an Encouraging Public Speaker.

I love to encourage others, share and speak.  It's kind of scary but at the same time, it's always been a dream of mine to do just that.  If you know anyone needing a speaker, just let me know :)!  I have spoken to MOPS groups and bible studies but I would love to share encouragement with any group!  Pass my name along too, thank you!  #thatwasscarytotype ;)

Ride a Vespa.

I actually did this!  I have always wanted to ride one and it was as fun as I thought it would be.  I even had fun when Scott drove and I was his passenger around a fun little beach town.    We rented them on our last beach vacation and took turns giving the kids rides too.   I know the picture shows I was having no fun but it was a blast!

Read through the bible.

Since getting saved at 22 (Read more about that here), I have read parts of the bible, whole books even, but never read cover to cover.  I haven't read much of the old testament and so this year Scott and I are reading through the bible together.  We won't finish by the end of the year and that's ok!  We are both learning so much about God and I am falling more in love with Him and his gracious, loving nature despite our pesky sinful behavior.  I am so thankful for His word.  We are currently in Deuteronomy and Romans!

This one is a secret BUT it's something I have wanted to do for a while!  Only time will tell...your prayers are appreciated.

So there you have it, 10 things I have always wanted to do!  What is something you want to do?   Do we have anything in common?

When I stopped and thought about it, many of these things were not grand in nature but things I want to enjoy with the people I love.  This list didn't include copious amounts of money, new clothes, handbags, fancy cars or the like.  It's good to remember that the things in this life we most love, are the simple things or experiences!

Now it's your turn.  Grab the graphic above, link back to this blog and and link-up!   Make sure to visit some other linked up blogs and leave a note to say hello.  Link-ups are a great way to get to know new friends and bloggers!  I can't wait to read your posts!

Until next time, keep on keeping on! xoxo ERIN

Linking up with Friday Favorites  with Andrea and Erika as well as KT Cup of Tea and BYBMG for High Five TEN ;) for Friday!

  1. What a great bucket list! I would love to visit Isreal. My friends backpacked for a month in the area and loved every second. The temple was their favorite. We have SO much in common. I wasn't saved until I was 19, and would love to read through The Bible. Parasailing is so much fun. You should try that and run the 5K there is no other feeling like finishing a race you have trained for. I ran my first one last May and it was the best experience because it was something I had never done or even dreamed I could do. Finishing was the best feeling! Have a wonderful weekend my beautiful friend! Praying for your secret!

  2. I ran my first 5K a few years ago and it doesn't seem like a lot but it kind of was!! I did "train" for it as silly as that may sound but it totally helped! Writing a children's book would be SO cool!

  3. I've gone parasailing, and it's so much fun!! I so wanted to do this link-up, but I couldn't get my stuff together! I want to travel all over Europe with my crew! That would be number one, and I too have a secret bucket list item that I'm covering in prayers! I'll cover your's as well, friend!!

  4. I love your list! I've been to Israel!

  5. I think you would be amazing at both writing a children’s book and being an encouraging public speaker! I love to watch your Insta stories. They so uplifting and encouraging. Visit Israel – YES! I knew I was leaving off something so important to me. I want to visit with my family as well. I’m going to update my post! Read through the bible is on my list as well. I will be praying for #10 on your list. Love the picture you used for this one!!

  6. I love your list! Writing a children's book sounds like so much fun! Jess at Just Jess

  7. You got the 5K! Love everything on your list, what would your children's book be about? I think that it's awesome you want to do some more public speaking, and family vacation, yes please!

    1. Discovered your link-up and series through this lady ^^^ Sarah. Going to try to join you each month now.
Your list seems very doable. I have just started running 5Ks, fun! Want to write a children's book myself. Will you let us know when your secret "activity" is accomplished?
      Thank you for the link-up!

  8. Great list but I have to disagree with you on number 7. YOU ALREADY ARE AN ENCOURAGING PUBLIC SPEAKER! This blog is your medium but you encourage me all the time!

  9. I would love to go parasailing! And I very much want to be able to say I have ran a 5k one day. I have read through the Bible once. It was so gratifying. I very much want to do it again. I have the You Version Bibke app. It has tons of Bibke reading plans and I'm trying to find the one that works for me!

  10. You can totally do the 5K! I believe in you! I've done it twice now as an adult, and it's totally manageable in less than 3 months. I am not religious but would very much like to visit Israel as well. My students and I watch the Imax film, Jerusalem, when I teach about the 3 major religions of the Middle East. If you haven't watched it yet, you definitely need to check it out. It is absolutely stunning, and I think it would be amazing to visit the places that are so important to three unique cultures. Have a great weekend!

  11. I so enjoyed this list Erin, such a worthwhile list. Good for you and Hubby, reading through the Bible! Happy new week!

  12. You are a speaker, girl! And a secret?! Don't leave me hanging!
