Come On In: Christmas Home Tour...

Welcome to our home at Christmas!  Come on In...

It simply is the most wonderful time of year to savor our Savior's birth and great gift (read more here)!  It's also my very favorite time to decorate...I have more bins in my store room dedicated to this holiday than any other holiday combined, my husband can attest as he helped me lug them upstairs ;)!  I am normally a minimalist by nature but Christmas conjures tradition and nostalgia for my family and I so we have a whole lot of sentimental tied up with a classic decorating style.

I love wreaths, garland and white twinkling lights on the exterior!  My long term plan is to convert all  my exterior wreaths to be cordless and lit on the windows. So far only my front door wreath is (similar).

This year my mom gave me some of her garland they no longer needed (purchased here) and then I worked to coordinate all the wreaths and bows with silver, gold and red accents (I get most of my picks and ribbon at Hobby Lobby and Michael's).  I am a traditional girl at heart.  My mom taught me how to make these bows (but this is a good tutorial).

Let's take a peak in the evening, shall we?
It's truly when Christmas decor hits its sweet spot (in my humble opinion).

When we bought our house, I wanted a 2 story foyer.  It's nostalgic for me because my mom always had beautiful garlands swagged up the stairs and as a young girl, I thought it was breathtaking.  All my Christmas decorating dreams came true when we built this house and it had the perfect staircase to get my own garland swag on!

I just changed out a few decor items on the office shelves for some special, sentimental pieces and fir greens.  The kids also have their advent calendars on the shelves so little fingers don't find little pieces.  We have these (here, here, here).

And the living room...my favorite room to decorate at Christmas.  We added garland to the mantel, added our our stocking holders (without stockings so they don't get pulled onto little heads) with our Isabel Bloom nativity and handmade creche by my father in law.

A few Christmas touches on the adjacent shelves in the family room...my mom collected Byer's Carolors when we were kids.  When I got married, she started my collation for me.  We have one for every member of our little family plus some ;).

We have this one and a few others.

So cozy with a warm fire...

This nativity candle carousel is another nostalgic piece.  I spent some of my childhood in Europe and my mom got a BIG one when we went to the Christmas Market in Germany one year.  We always were so mesmerized.  My kids are too.  We have 3 around our house and love to light them at night! Here is one similar to our big one and the candles to go with.

A friend of ours makes these darling prints...

A big basket of books (some of our favorites are this one, this one and this one) and a tree decorated with ornaments - one for every person in our family every year.  My mom collects these for the girls. Solon got a lit Seattle Seahawks ornament this year and thinks it is amazing (it is cool!).  My mom always writes the name and year on each ornament.  I got all my childhood ones when I got married as did my husband!

My Willow Tree Nativity is on our dining buffet!

Our savior's precious gift (learn more about how precious Jesus' gift is to our family here).

...and a little centerpiece for our table!

Last year I set the table up for our Christmas dinner raclette with my china, stocking utensil holders, wood grain chargers with an heirloom Christmas tablecloth from Scott's grandmother.

...and a few more touches by the back door on the coat locker shelves.  That lantern has a timer and comes on in the evening!  (similar lanterns here)

I do a few touches upstairs as well.  Each of our kiddos has a little tree in their rooms which they love to use as a nightlight and decorate themselves.  I got the cute little tree skirts and trees at Target one year.  I place a garland and some fir sprigs in our room as well as some mercury glass Christmas trees.  The basement got a few touches of greens too but nothing too fussy!

I just love decorating our home and cozying up to watch movies, invite friends and family over, and make memories.  Watching it all through our kids eyes makes it all so magical and all the work worth it!  Merry Christmas from our family to yours!
