10 on the 10th: 10 Things I am Digging

Welcome to my new series - 10 on the 10th!  Each month I will have a list of 10 things on a topic.  This month it's 10 things I am digging!  If you are new here, you can click here to find out a little more about me.  Thanks for stopping by.  Here's10 on the 10th: what I am digging...

one.
mums
I took a chance this spring and planted a few tiny mums and then followed my mom's green thumb advice very carefully, plucked off any flowers that sprouted early and then watered with miracle-grow once a week.  And I am happy to report I grew some big old mums.  My other flowers didn't fair as well but my mums are budding and HUGE.  Now I am hoping they will regrow next year since I picked the perennial kind.  Once again I am listening to my mom and not cutting them back until late next spring when I start to see green growth.  I am certainly digging mums!

two.
Fall Weather Attire

Scarf - Nordstrom, Longchamp backpack - Bloomingdale's,  Shoreline Converse - Nordstom Rack,  Jeans - Uniqlo, Mustard  tank - Old Navy, Boyfriend Cardigan - Gap)
Dressing for fall is my favorite.  The more layers I can pile on to my body the better.  Give me all the scarves, bangles, camel bags and field jackets!  Where we live we don't comfortably dress for fall without a thick jacket for long but while it's here, I am certainly digging it.
(Sunglasses - TJ Maxx, Scarf - Walmart, Field Vest - Von Maur, Tory Burch tassel handbag, Shoes - Sperry, Striped long sleeve tee - Target, bangles - Alex and Ani and White House Black Market)
three.
This is Us

This show.  I am a hard sell.  I don't just like any show right off the bat but it had me hooked after episode 1.  My husband said, "wow they have some good writers for that show." My sentiments exactly.  I was both in tears, laughing and saying "WHAT?" at the end of the first couple episodes and couldn't stop thinking about what comes next.  It's streaming for free on the NBC app right now.  I highly recommend it.  Scott and I are digging it :).

four.
Fall Snacks
Apples + caramel dip + mini chocolate chips

We all are digging this snack.  Let's pretend the apples make it a semi-healthy snack (hush!).  We did come up with the rule that there is no double dipping to assure we are eating the apples and not just licking off the sweets (not that anyone did that, I am looking at you Vera ;).  You could add nuts, peanut butter sauce, whipped cream, coconut, white chocolate chips, candy corn or anything else to make it into a fun little apple nacho bar for your next fall party.
Pumpkin Muffins

We are whipping up pumpkin muffins and breads weekly.  It's a favorite snack and breakfast staple.  We use the Betty Crocker cookbook recipe and then add in a good amount of chocolate chips (because everything is better with chocolate).  The recipe makes enough for a batch of mini muffins, a batch of regular muffins and 2-3 mini loaves of bread. One batch lasts us a whole week usually.   The littlest Port is digging this yumminess for sure.

five.
My bible study
I am blessed beyond words and my cup is filled on Tuesday mornings.  Right now we are studying Ecclesiastes and this study is FULL of insight.  I am both convicted and encouraged.  I need community and I need Jesus! If you want to see some of the devotions I share with the ladies, click here.  I am digging this study.

six.
Music
We dig all kinds of music at our house.   I love This Little Light of Mine by Addison Road, its a new take on an "This Little Light of Mine" and my workout instructor plays it for a cool down song.  I love the new spin on a song I love to sing to my kids.

This Little Light of Mine by Addison Road

I also love the lyrics of this song Eye of The Storm by Ryan Stevenson.

All Sons and Daughters has been on repeat while I have been working on the blog lately.

seven.
Hallmark Channel
Chesapeake Shores is a new series I found recommended in some comments on a blog I follow.  I love When Calls the Heart (it's on netflix) but it won't be back until January so I needed something to watch now.  Both shows have romance, drama and aren't R-rated.  I recommend both.  You can watch When Calls the Heart on Netflix (you can binge watch the first 3 seasons before season 4 comes out in January). I dig the hallmark channel and the Christmas movies are just around the corner, I dig those too :).

eight.
 Karen Kingsbury

I am a HUGE fan and have read her complete Baxter series.  She is coming out with the next installment, A Baxter Family Christmas.  I cannot wait.  I also just read this book, I dig both books.

nine.
Crockpot Recipes

I don't know about you but we are running most afternoons with the exceptions of Wednesday.  Tuesdays and Thursdays we get home AT dinner which doesn't mean grace when it comes to rumbling bellies SO I have been using my crockpot almost exclusively those nights unless I enlist my hubby to make his sourdough pancakes and sausage!  Lately I have made roast and potatoes along with chili!
Chili recipe

1 lb of ground beef cooked (rinsed)
finely chopped onion (put in crockpot raw)
diced raw green pepper (optional)
2 cans of chili beans
1 can of tomato sauce
2 cans stewed tomatoes
chili powder and cumin to taste
a dash of salt and pepper
Cook on low and see you in 8 hours

**garnish with shredded cheese, crushed saltines or fritos

I normally cook up a box of jiffy cornbread ahead and serve with honey and butter!

Italian Roast Recipe

Beef roast of your choice (I like round roasts personally)
Packet of italian dressing dry mix
Packet of french onion dry soup mix
1-2 onions
Potato of your choice
Any other veggies - sometimes we do carrots, green peppers, or mushrooms

Place the onions on the bottom of the crockpot, then place roast on top with veggies around it.  Mix up the 2 seasoning packets with 1-1.5 cups of water (depending on size of crockpot) and dump over the top.

Cook on low for 8 hours until meat can be shredded with a fork.

Either serve potatoes as is or mash up with a little bit of milk (or cream) and butter.  Salt and pepper to taste!

ten.
You!
And I would be remiss if I didn't mention all your sweet words with this little blog redesign and revamp.  I am a words of affirmation kind of girl so your words were like honey to the soul.  Thank you isn't enough but thank you!
