SUMMER is slipping by and we have been enjoying it to the fullest. It takes on a whole new meaning when we are bound by school schedules an the reality that there are only a handful of these left that my little people will want to be with me...We have had more busy days than non-busy days but we turned our alarm clocks off, go to bed with the sun (or just before) and have made many memories. We are still in the throws of discipline and training too but we are still very much in the "we aren't ready for summer to end"...luckily school start dates were pushed back last year and we still have a good 6 weeks to go even if the big box stores are already advertising for back to school! We love summer! Let's rewind to June, shall we????
Last we left our little lady was knee deep in month 11 of her little life and momma was feeling all nostalgic! Look at our beauty grow in one little picture...
In June we celebrated a decade of marriage. Our life hasn't been perfect but there is no one better suited to be my partner in this crazy world. We met with our pastor the other night and commented on how much we have grown and changed since our premarital days with him. We have seen those changes in ourselves too, its not something we pushed on each other, only God could refine us! Our marriage has benefitted by our growth in Christ! We are so thankful for each other and our little nest we have...so so so thankful. Nana and Papa offered to watch the kids over night (and a late evening pickup for Lucy) so we went out for drinks and food truck appetizers at a local brewery before heading for sushi. My gift was a new farmhouse table handcrafted by none other than Scott so we set off after dinner to pick out the wood. It's still a work in progress (so much more work than Ana White makes it seem ;) but its beautiful and built with a lot of hard work, sweat and love!
The pool opened and Solon is both 48 inches and passed the swim test meaning a whole new aquatic world for him to explore. Slides, diving boards and more slides were on the agenda for him.
see his toe ;)
In June after 600+ days in the hospital Leilani from our church came home from the children's hospital and we had a ticker tape parade to welcome her home! Vera decorated our sign!
We brought the bubble fun...
Grandma got Lucy a new pool...and everyone enjoys it!
We celebrated school being out with a little mexican at our favorite restaurant and something to note - Solon ordered a full adult meal and ate every last bite while I shared my meal with both girls since we didn't anticipate that! Thank goodness for chips and salsa...things just got more expensive!
It's funny to see the corn so short in this picture as it is now towering at a solid 8 feet! We enjoy lunch on the back deck and love having the P family over often for playdates and lunch!
We have quiet time for Lucy everyday, she has gotten on a nice 11-2pm nap schedule SO we quiet the house down after lunch. The big kids play for a bit and then have some screen time before we wind back up for afternoon activities whether thats tumbling lessons on Monday (we are now done), going to the pool, or swimming lessons (Thursday afternoons).
More fun playdates with the W family :) Sprinkler fun for the win!
Then it was time to take the P Family to the lake with us for a weekend of fun...there wasn't an activity we didn't do! We had beautiful weather and lots and lots and lots of fun! From the maui mat and slide, to paddle boarding, tubing, jetskiing, and hot tubbing as well as pancakes and smores over the fire.
my little lake baby :)
Miles loved the hot tub
Since Nana and Papa moved to town we see them at least once a week and we try to visit their neighborhood pool. It's never very busy and the water is refreshing. We all enjoy our frequent visits and Nana even does all the clean-up for mommy...washing babies and towels and sending us home in jammies with full bellies.
We have visited our share of parks, ridden our bikes and gone on walks when the hot humid weather permits. Lucy loves to swing and the other 2 love coming up with new Ninja Warrior courses around the playground...is everyone into ANW like we are?
We celebrate this awesome Dad with a fun weekend of baseball and a day trip to our favorite state park -- Ledges! He is the best, seriously! We hit the jackpot with this hardworking, sweet, funny guy!
Solon had a blast and fell in love with t-ball this year, he is anxious for little league and coach-pitch next year.
We all had fun playing in the creek and getting splashed at Ledges. We even hiked as a family. The only snag was Lucy is not a fan of the carrier so Daddy carried her. He got a full body workout ;).
more swimming and parks...can I say it again, we love summer!!!!!
Then it was time for a little family road trip, just us 5! We were really excited about this as we often travel with people or to see family. This was our weekend to plan and do what we wished. We spent the night 2 nights in Scott's hometown so he could attend his 15 year class reunion dinner (Saturday). We met up with his HS best friend and their family for the parade...
And then took in all that the Sturgis Falls festivities had to offer. The kids particularly enjoyed the kidzone complete with crafts, face painting, a kids performance stage, robotics demos, bubble stations, etc. We also hit up Main Street for a little shopping before heading to have dinner at the H family's!
She went with it all weekend - such a good gal ;)
a cute little kitty cat
we visited the historical museum to see the trains and victorian house set-up as well as get the kids caricature drawn...Solon thought it was awesome he even got his glasses correct ;)
The kids loved the pool and all sleeping in one room as well as all you can eat continental breakfast ;)! It is fun to adventure as a family, we are already planning our next trip to Chicago. We survived all sleeping together so we are taking our show on the road!
On the way back to Ankeny we hit up a couple of "junk" antique stores and stopped in Story City to ride the historical carousel and have lunch!
All I have to say is there were no seat belts and it went fast, the 2nd time Lucy and I sat on a bench ;)
After we fried our bottoms on the sunny teeter totter, the kids loved the one in the shade with daddy on the other side!
That night after our road trip was night 1 of VBS and Vera got to go this year to the full thing! She was so excited. This year the theme was "Basic Elements" and all about science and the basic elements of our faith. The kids loved the science experiments especially making and launching their own rockets. I helped with the kindergarten boys (I had no voice at the end of the week ;) and Daddy and Lucy enjoyed being home alone!
The last week of June Lucy turned 1...we celebrated with doughnuts for breakfast and present opening in the morning since we had VBS. Lucy got a new pink power wheels jeep which she is lovingly sharing with her siblings ;). Solon got her a darling purse just her size and Vera got her a tiny doll. She also got some new touch and feel books and an outfit! We were celebrating with family on July 8th but we headed to Nana and Papa's for a celebratory lunch (daddy met us). Nana made a cake and Lucy refused to eat it but she did enjoy swimming after lunch!
And just like that our busy fun June was coming to a close -- I took the kids to get the car serviced and they did so well despite it taking 2 hours. We had a car dealership picnic and took over the tv ;)! Lucy loves food pouches and so do I!
...and just like the June was done and we were off to our annual 4th of July Vacation with my family at the lake. My 23rd year (only missing 2 times ) and Scott's 14th!
Happy June - it was fun, full and quintessential summer. We knocked several things off of our bucket list but more than was in store in July as well as more lazy summer days!
