The Greatest Gift...

"It wasn't the nails that kept Him on the cross, it was LOVE."
-Jesus Storybook Bible

WOW!  Love that strong that you would endure the pain, slander, unjust punishment and death for ME?  That is the greatest love we know.  Love so strong, my human mind, can't wrap my head around it.  Love kept Him on that cross.  He was the son of God after all, at any time a swarm of heavenly angels could have swept Him away, His friends tried to fend off the enemy and He told them no.  He had many ways out and He did not choose it.  He knew his destiny, wept over it and did it anyway because of His GREAT love for us.

In the day to day, I often forget the tremendous gift He has given me.  The shame he took.  Even if we look "good" on the outside, we are all sinners.  We see it in the defiance of our kids, the moments we judge others, venomous words, and the world around us.  Sin is pervasive.  AND the only way God saw to destroy it once and for all was to send a sinless man to pay the price.  His own son.  The pain of losing a child, watching Him suffer, seems unbearable as a mother.  I don't know how he did it - but he did.

Gifts in this world are never free, and this gift He offers us, was far from free.  Jesus paid dearly for it.  Don't waste the gift of knowing our loving savior.  It is as simple as recognizing you are a sinner, understanding you need Him and surrendering your life to His leading.  Sounds to simple in our human mind, but it is life changing.  My life IS changed.  I am still imperfect but I am redeemed.  Thank God for that.  I have a place in His house for eternity.  Gone are the days of wondering where my eternity would be spent.  I know Heaven is real.

We had a little lesson about the cross today...and took a moment to remember with Resurrection eggs and the reading of the story from our Jesus Storybook Bible.  Our kids are still little but when I read that story it is just as much for me, as them.  One day our greatest hope is that all our friends and family we pray for daily will accept the gift Jesus Christ has to offer!

A simple mark to remind us all weekend long of the greatest sacrifice and I am sure we will have the opportunity to share "why" we have a sharpie dot on our hands!

The story doesn't end with the cross, it only begins.  Jesus didn't die, He is the son of God and He conquered death so that we may have eternal life with Him.  The tomb is empty and the Son of Man is gone.  He is alive, hallelujah, amen!

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16

Happy Easter!
