Off to the State Fair...

We again had fabulous weather for the Iowa State Fair.  We went the last day this year as my in-laws got a special award (more on that later in the post) but we went early and it didn't get busy until midday!  We hit up the "Little Hands on the Farm" and baby animal exhibits first as they get busy.
Which came first the chicken or the egg?

Papa helping V take her "food" to market...

His legs are finally strong enough!
The little Hands exhibit is so cute and goes through the whole process of farming from planting to market.  At the end they earn money at market to buy real food at the store.  A nice morning snack!

Next stop a visit to the butter cow and get a drink of a fair favorite -- honey lemonade!

The butter cow...

We took a break from fair festivities to play on a little playground...

The State Fair...getting busy!

We stopped by the Pork Producer tent to have lunch and then headed to the train exhibit - one of Solon's favorites...
A whole building of HO trains all set-up...note his hat (he did that himself)

Off to see the largest animals of the fair...

Then it was time for Nana and Papa to be inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame.  It was a nice ceremony - glad we could be there.

And we couldn't leave the fair without 2 trips down the super slide.  It was Vera's first time and after the first trip, she signed "more".  The kids would have gone down over and over if only it weren't $8 per time (for all of us)...

We finished off the day with a little trip to the varied industries building where I picked up some of those yummy just cooked chocolate chip cookies and then proceeded to lose the rest of the group.  Whoops...luckily we were reunited and attempted to grab something on a stick but chose to get ice cream at the dairy barn instead before heading home in time for dinner.  It was a FULL day of fair fun!
