We are currently in the book of James at church and it is my 2nd time this year going through and God must know I could use a 2nd dose. It is chalked full of GOOD life application and drives to the core of our sinful nature...since it is Multitude Monday here is a message I am thankful for hearing and I hope God uses it to touch your heart as He has mine! Blessings! ~Erin
Brothers and sisters, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against a brother or sister or judges them speaks against the law and judges it. There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you -- who are you to judge your neighbor? James 4:11-12
In our society today, we turn on the television, the radio, read a column, tabloid, and the list goes on and on - WE JUDGE. We judge people based on hair style, how they discipline their children,, their kid is dirty and has no shoes on, how often they are intimate or if they are intimate, they stay home, they work, they have no children, they have too many children, they wore the wrong eye liner, they wore granny panties when they should have worn a thong, their hemline was too low, their bra was too tight, and you can go deeper and get more political but you get the picture...
We judge our friends, our spouse, our kids, our neighbors, our parents, and people we don't even know. Why? To build ourselves up, hide our own flaws....it makes good juicy news and gossip!
Have you ever judged a book by the cover and later lived to regret it. I can think of 2 people off hand I have done that too in the last year alone. Have you criticized another person's child and what they have done only to find your own child doing it later or said "I will never do that" before you became a parent - YEP my hand is raised!
Have you ever been at the center of judgement - you know how it feels?
What if we go back to the bible - what does God say? and if you are not comfortable with that, how about you go back to the old saying "Never judge a person until you have walked a mile in their shoes."
Let's stop judging people and let God take care of that. He does a good job at everything He does so I am more than confident he has it under control. Be patient with people, give them grace because after all -- God is patient with us. To not do this would be to think you know better than God and I am afraid to tell you and myself - that is simply IMPOSSIBLE!
So instead of judging. how about you compliment, share a kind word and encourage one another daily - live in joy and multitude. I am taking my own advice....
But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called "Today" so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness" Hebrew 3:13
and the good ol' golden rule my mama taught me....
Treat others how you wish to be treated.
