Spot the Thrift Store purchase....

Thursday, August 30, 2012

So I had not been thrifting before at our local Goodwill and Salvation Army but I keep reading on some of the blogs I follow like here and I thought, yes I might find nothing but what have I got to lose.  I was pleasantly surprised at all the "finds" if you just have a little imagination ;).  I ended up with 2 items above - the little turkey figurine (at a steal for 39 cents) and the maroonish textured sphere ($1.29).  I had ideas of painting them both say a bright acid green for the turkey as surprise and pop of color and the sphere a color for our bedroom but on another blog, they gave the advice to give it a temporary home and live with it before making any permanent changes SO there they sit and I kind of like where they landed for now.  Even if the little sphere never made it upstairs.  I also found a brand new Adidas workout tank for $1.69 and a C9 (target brand) brand spankin'new, likeneverwashednopilling zipped hoodie.  I washed them both up and enjoyed them working out on Monday (a thrift store workout shirt surely improved my calorie count ;).  I am already planning some more trips to surrounding stores but I am currently working on painting our kitchen cabinets so I better stay on task for now, especially since my inlaws graciously offered to come help with the kids because you all know how helpful Vera would like to be **wink, wink!  Don't worry I will blog all about it!
What have you found thrifting?  Does it get you all excited like me?

Multitude Monday & a Few "free" thoughts...

Monday, August 27, 2012
We are currently in the book of James at church and it is my 2nd time this year going through and God must know I could use a 2nd dose.  It is chalked full of GOOD life application and drives to the core of our sinful nature...since it is Multitude Monday here is a message I am thankful for hearing and I hope God uses it to touch your heart as He has mine!  Blessings! ~Erin

Brothers and sisters, do not slander one another.  Anyone who speaks against a brother or sister or judges them speaks against the law and judges it.  There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy.  But you -- who are you to judge your neighbor? James 4:11-12

In our society today, we turn on the television, the radio, read a column, tabloid, and the list goes on and on - WE JUDGE.  We judge people based on hair style, how they discipline their children,, their kid is dirty and has no shoes on, how often they are intimate or if they are intimate, they stay home, they work, they have no children, they have too many children, they wore the wrong eye liner, they wore granny panties when they should have worn a thong, their hemline was too low, their bra was too tight, and you can go deeper and get more political but you get the picture...

We judge our friends, our spouse, our kids, our neighbors, our parents, and people we don't even know.  Why?  To build ourselves up, hide our own makes good juicy news and gossip!

Have you ever judged a book by the cover and later lived to regret it.  I can think of 2 people off hand I have done that too in the last year alone.  Have you criticized another person's child and what they have done only to find your own child doing it later or said "I will never do that" before you became a parent - YEP my hand is raised!

Have you ever been at the center of judgement - you know how it feels?

What if we go back to the bible - what does God say? and if you are not comfortable with that, how about you go back to the old saying "Never judge a person until you have walked a mile in their shoes."

Let's stop judging people and let God take care of that.  He does a good job at everything He does so I am more than confident he has it under control.  Be patient with people, give them grace because after all -- God is patient with us.  To not do this would be to think you know better than God and I am afraid to tell you and myself - that is simply IMPOSSIBLE!

So instead of judging. how about you compliment, share a kind word and encourage one another daily - live in joy and multitude.  I am taking my own advice....

But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called "Today" so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness"  Hebrew 3:13

and the good ol' golden rule my mama taught me....

Treat others how you wish to be treated.

Wonder Pet Party: The Guests...

Solon and his friend waiting for more friends to arrive!
The playset has gotten LOTS of use - makes us feel good that it has been a good investment!  The kiddos played a while with lawn games and the play set before we started some games...
So you would think as a 1st grade teacher I would know how to teach a game to a bunch of preschoolers - HA!  It was a relay with 2 teams.  They were supposed to rescue 1 stuffed animal at a time and bring it back and the next person would go - well as the picture shows, it was a mass run to the other end to grab a choice animal.  Oh well, we did that a couple of times and they loved it...
So normally it is like 100 degrees on Solon's birthday so I planned to "Save the animal" and get them out of ice - well it was 72 degrees so we improvised and pulled out some water and they gave them a bath to help with the process.  They got to take home the animal they rescued!  Remember Wonder Pets goal is to save animals in every episode!
The peanut gallery...

Next up pin the Wonder pets logo on the cape...we had a few peakers - wink, wink!
Cake time...
Blowing spitting on the candles...luckily his cupcake was his own!
...and presents - he had lots of little helpers.  The kids were so excited, many of them opened their present for Solon and presented it to him.  He didn't mind ;)!
He got lots of fun things, a semi truck, a fishing pole, baseball bat, bubble mower, bubble machine, colors, games, etc.  He was very blessed!  And we have played with it all....

Wonder Pets Party: The Details...

Friday, August 24, 2012
If you haven't heard of the Wonder Pets you are not alone...It was once a show on Nickelodeon but it is no longer on.  We don't have cable so Solon watches most of his viewing pleasures on Netflix.  All 4 glorious seasons are on there!  It is actually really cute and most days I will put Vera down for a nap he gets to watch 1 episode.  Luckly for me since is kind of a thing of the past, all the Wonder Pets party stuff was on clearance at our local party store.  Everything was just a $1, the centerpieces, birthday sign, thank you notes, games, etc.  SCORE!  I am not HUGE into "themes" like this but Solon was elated so cutsy-ed it up and we had a great backyard bash!
I ordered these cookies as a "splurge" since I saved so much on all the decor...these were the "gift" for coming to the party.  Wonder Pets are school pets that after school hours turn into super heroes and save animals....hence the cape, little flyboat, etc.
Three Chicks Bakery did a fabulous job!
The goodies bags...
The cupcakes - I ordered little "wonder pet" picks off of Etsy - they turned out so cute!
The dessert table - we had cupcakes and ice cream with toppings bar!
The table...
My mom whipped this cape up for Solon - they sell them on Etsy for $30...thanks if we could get him to wear the cute thing!
...and there is Linny with celery - at the conclusion of every successful rescue, they eat celery to "Celery-brate!"
...and last but not least I ordered these adorable invites on Etsy....another splurge!
More pictures to come of the fun party!

August Lazy Lake Days...

Thursday, August 23, 2012
So I know the lake pictures look the same to you each and every time I post but to me, they don't get old...there is JUST something about the lake.  Thank God for his beauty - I appreciate the art he made in this lake.  My cousins from TX came up and we have a long loving history....I would fly to pick them up when they were a wee bit older than my kids...imagine the stares -- me about 19 with 2 kiddos....but it was worth it and we developed a VERY special bond.  It is SO sweet to watch them with my kiddos now.  Their mama would be SO proud of the kiddos young adults they have become, I love them to pieces and think they are pretty amazing - as you can see below, my kids are pretty smitten too.  I barely lifted a "mom" finger all week except for #2 duty and nursing of course!
Auntie Ellen, Vera, and Madelynne - Madelynne has the same middle name as Vera and Bailey happens to share the name Robert with Solon ;)
A lake sunset!
Bailey played golf over, and over, and over again with Solon - he earned his keep!
So sweet....
We invented a new game "Jumping on the tubes"  I had to join in on the action, you are never too old to have fun...good thing I didn't brake my tail bone though ;)
Um can we talk about that tush....seriously?!?!
Grandpa and V....
Best Buds....

Thanks for coming to MN Madelynne and Bailey, the older you get the more you have at home but we certainly appreciate you choosing to spend time with us.  We all love it!  Thank you!
**Side note I apologize for the lack of regular updates - It is on my to do list to get ahead, just hasn't happened yet ;)

Solon's 3rd Birth"DAY"....

We were in Minneaplis on Solon's actual 3rd Birthday (August 7th) because my cousins from Texas were visiting. SO I thought what better way to celebrate than go to the Mall of America amusement park to ride rides. Solon LOVES Wonder Pets and there is a Fly Boat ride there - so that was our first stop....
Luckily it was not too busy since we arrived right before it opened and were first in line (don't mess with this mama and helping to make her son's dreams come true ;) Only a few of us could ride or it was too heavy - guess it is not for adults...Solon was not sure at first BUT...

...LOVED it. We rode this ride about 6 times and he could NOT get enough. I have to say it was really fun!

Next up was the little kids roller coaster....
...and the zippy cars...
....Vera even took her 1st amusement ride but it was a little too "zippy" for her so we took her on the train after that...
...she also had lots of people willing fighting to cuddle her...
...Solon even strategically luckily won the ball toss game and got the biggest prize and won a Superman and Batman doll...he insisted on giving Batman to his buddy Evan! Everyone was screaming, it was quite the scene...
His favorite Wonder Pet a special surprise, I let him pick out one thing in the theme park store, it took him about 10 seconds to choose...we never let him get things at the store, so this was a real, special treat ;)
After the rides we went to The Rainforest Cafe. The kids loved watching all the animals& sitting through a thunderstorm...that place has got it all figured out in how to nickel and dime you but it was the experience that made it worth it - we don't need to go back for a long time though!
After a BUSY day of lots of ride, lunch and a little shopping...we headed home to have a cake "Mickey themed" and presents...
Vera was a little tuckered out...
Solon was blessed to have lots of family come to his party!
...and even more blessed in the present department...
Luckily we got it all in the car! It was a great birth"day" full of fun and memories! Thanks buddy for letting us share your special day full of fun...

Little Miss is 11 Months Old...

Friday, August 17, 2012
How can this be my LAST post before my darling, sweet, vivacacious, wild, BUSY little lady is ONE?  I have to admit, I am slow to put this up for a variety of reasons but mostly because I am in SERIOUS denial that my lady is growing up SO fast.  Here is what she is up to this month!

She finally has 2 front bottom teeth...she had no teeth and then boom 2 came in at almost the exact time....she is crabby again SO I think the same is going to happen on top, because she is pretty swollen :(

This is so her - busy, marches to her own drum and is opinionated ;)  Doesn't want the sticker on, by goodness, she will take the sticker off and wave it in triumph...yep that is what is happening in that picture ;)
Round #150 of her taking the sticker off - I gave up...atleast she was sitting still and smiling - I will take it ;)

This is what Little Miss Vera is up to in Month 11:
  • If I haven't mentioned it before, our little lady is on the move CONSTANTLY.  If she is not sticking something in her mouth, she is into something she shouldn't be (despite my attempts at baby proofing)  I am constantly vacuuming and picking up so that something doesn't find its way into her mouth...she ate a bug today (I fished it out of her mouth - I am over being grossed out, I just react ;)
  • She is crawling, climbing up stairs, hoists herself on to furniture and anything that looks remotely like it could hold her
  • She drinks out of a sippy with water
  • Eats 3 meals a day and is liking a more wide variety of foods
  • LOVES grapes, cinnamon gerber puffs, yogurt drops, yogurt, strawberries, Mexican, lasagna, beans, shredded cheese, cheesey potatoes, pepperoni (weird I know)
  • Still doesn't love her veggies unless they are sweet potatoes or squash but tried broccoli this month and ate it and likes peas
  • Wants whatever you are eating and will screach until you give it to her - no need for signing for her - you know what she wants
  • Has a morning snack around 10AM
  • Still nurses 5 times a day (I am trying and failling at weaning her) but it will happen I know - I didn't have to do it with Solon because he weaned himself
  • Takes an afternoon nap from 1-3:30 or 4pm each day
  • Sleeps from 7:15pm-6am (nurses and goes back to bed until 7:30AM)
  • Likes to look at books
  • Likes to play with toys
  • Loves to play with Solon and laughs when they wrestle and do silly things
  • Always exploring and checking out everything
  • Raises her hands up to signal she wants to be carried
  • Says mama and I think means it, babbles a lot and tells us "stories"
  • Scales all the furniture and starting to walk along while holding on to 1 or 2 hands
  • HATES to have her diaper changed - goes through 3 or 4 a day
  • Still wears 9 month clothing or 6-12 month clothing - she is a peanut ;)
  • Wears size 3 diapers
  • Recently overcame a STRONG distaste for the bathtub but alas she likes it again thankfully
  • Loves to swing
  • Likes to ride in the bike pull behind
  • Recently noticed the TV for the first time and it catches her attention for 5 minutes here and there
  • Still likes to use her pacifier and now puts it in her mouth if she finds one
  • Loves her blanket to sleep
  • Always standing up in her bed waiting for us to come get her
  • Happy and smiley most of the time

We love her spitfire, adventurous, percocious personality.  Her big brother helps to shepherd her and keep her out of trouble MUCH to her dismay.  She is a lovey and likes to cuddle with me at each feeding and we snuggle extra long at bed each night (It is allowed they grow up TOO fast).  It is fun to see her little personality shine and of course we couldn't love her ANY bit more if we tried....better start planning her very special first birthday!!!!

Multitude Monday....

Thursday, August 16, 2012
Note this was going to post on Monday but in respect for my mom sharing with all of our family, I waited.  Since this post, my mom has gotten additional news that the cancer has not spread from her rightside to her left. An answer to prayer...we will continue to pray that they get ALL of the tumor next Thursday during her lumpectomy - thanks in advance for your prayers.  We know they work!

Since I wrote last we had a whirlwind week at the lake.  My cousins from Texas had planned on coming up for the week so the kids and I planned to join them.  What we didn't expect was my mom found out she has breast cancer and my Grandma Wetherbee being rushed to the ER and being placed in a medical coma on a ventilator due to pneumonia.  BUT God is good all the time and there were so many things to be thankful during the proverbial "Storm" that without further a do I will share what I am thankful for this week....

141.  Just 24 hours after being in a medically-induced coma and on a ventilator, my Grandma was released from ICU to go home.  Miracles happen everyday folks...this is one of them! Praise Him for answered prayers.
142.  Mammograms - they provide early detection of breast cancer and because of that, my mom's cancer is not only treatable, it is also most likely curable.
143.  Great Doctors with great wisdom and bedside manner
144.  Supportive friends and family who prayed and provided loving and kind words
145.  My kiddos who provide humor and smiles despite everything else
146.  My grandparent's unfailing love and devotion for one another - it is so sweet and inspiring!
147.  My TX cousins who LOVED on my children NON-stop - my kiddos ADORE them!
148.  Solon's first "adult-like" tube ride - we all survived and he couldn't stop giggling with glee
149.  Ice cream dates with my family while we get gas at the local marina
150.  Early morning views of the lake
151.  Pancakes made on the fire and eating outdoors
152.  Hugs - they seem to make everything better
153.  God's peace which transcends all understanding (Philippians 4:5-7)
154.  Answered Prayers
155.  Tearing up when Solon met one of the Wonder Pets characters on his birthday at the Mall of America - it was AWESOME and so special - I couldn't have planned it better if I tried ;)
156.  Solon turned 3 - he is healthy and he is SO special to us!
157.  Safety on the roads - it is so easy to take for granted but I am SO thankful for God's provision
158.  Coming home to my amazing husband - I really missed him while we were away
159.  Scott running all my birthday party errands since we got delayed in MN - and he cleaned ;)
160.  Having such generous and loving friends help us celebrate our little guy's birthday!
161.  Singing on praise team this weekend - nothing like leading worship for our loving Father!
162.  A great message by our pastor on thinking of others....
163.  The beautiful cooler weather
164.  Watching Solon FREAK out when he opened his special wonder pets presents ;)
165.  a great Mickey mouse family party at the lake for Solon - thanks mom - it was great!
It is easy in the storm to get the "woe is me" attitude but it can always be worse and God NEVER lets us go....even when the storm seems to bad to pass through, God is always there to lead us through.  I am thankful to know Him and love him.....God is good all the time, nothing is a surprise to him and he always goes before us.  That is a comforting thought!  How do I thank Him giving my life to Him and sharing His good news with others....

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
Romans 12:1 NIV

Sometimes, it is just better if there is a barrier between Vera and Solon....

for many reasons....
