The shopping cart...

Well adjusting to life with 2 kiddos in tow for errands is going better and better everyday.  I have learned to unbuckle Solon from my seat and then have him crawl over to Vera's side where I get them both out - this means less time he can mess around between cars and I don't have to juggle her while he exits...he is even learning to enter on her side and crawl into his own seat and then I just buckle him in.  Yay for good training...BUT there is one thing I cannot get a handle on, it quite literally has me stumped and I am trying one method after the next to find the perfect arrangment....the SHOPPING CART!  Yes, I had it all figured out with 1 child - we would walk in a store, grab a cart wipe, wipe down the cart and in Solon would go helping by holding the list, etc.  NOT ANYMORE....
On our first trip to the grocery store, I tried the old-school plain old cart and placed Solon up top in his normal seat as to not disrupt his routine and then placed Vera in the cart below in her car seat.  While both kids did great, there was absolutely no room for groceries.  Solon held the bread while Vera held the eggs.  Not ideal when you buy a $100 worth of groceries????  Oh wait I did forget the screaming match that ensued upon entry into the store and the very kind store manager taking pity on me as he rescued me from having to leave by giving Solon a lollipop (I am not endorsing bribes but you think about toting out a screaming 2 year old and car seat back out to the car - you would take the lollipop too)....SO trip #2 I decided to try the car cart - for those of you that don't know what that is, it is a slightly stubbier cart with a large plastic (little Tykes type) car attached to the front (It is like driving a boat)...I put him in the bottom with a lollipop (I brought one myself this time) and her up top - slight problem was I cannot see over her carseat and ran into a kind old lady in the middle of the cereal aisle.  She was so kind and apologetic but I seriously wanted to die....are you kidding me cart?  So after hurridly grabbing the last on my list and making a bee line out of there - I decided that was not the correct arrangement either.....
So today we went to Target, I decided to try her up top and Solon riding in the cart below...well 3 bonked heads later and several LOUD tears of pain and carrying him (because he refused to ride in the "mean cart")...I decided I now have issues with a little thing known as the cart....
Who knew that the cart would be the sticking point for this new mom of 2...I hope to get it figured out because my "fun" trip to Target raised my blood pressure a few notches and made for a tired cranky mama - not how I normally feel at my beloved Target.  Luckily tomorrow Vera and I are going on our 1st mom-daughter shopping trip and leaving the boys at home.  I am looking forward to a little shopping and quiet mommy time.  I forgot how easy shopping with a newborn is :)  and Solon and daddy will be much happier at home watching and playing "tackle" or football to you and me!

  1. a friend told me that once baby is old enough she highly endorses baby wearing. Have one baby on your body while you shop, the other in the cart. Just cover them up with your winter coat as you go in and out of the store... Since I have no idea how it would go, but just remember the suggestion, I thought I"d pass it on. :)
