A trip to Blank Children's Hospital...

Last night around 12:30AM Solon woke up coughin and gasping for air, kind of like an asthma attack.  He was very alarmed he could not breathe well and was taking short, labored inhales.  He was also choking on his own cud/spit.  Needless to say, we did not know what to do - risk driving the 20 minutes to the ER and have him become worse or call 911.  We decided to play it safe and call 911 - I have neve done that before.  I held it together but it seemed like the longest 5 minutes of my life!  When they arrived, we were thankful our best friend Mickey (a DM firefighter) hop out of the Ankeny ambulance, he was covering for a friend, THANK YOU GOD!!!!  They got him into the ambulance and got Solon some oxygen and then took us downtown to Blank.  Scott right behind us in the car...
It was very slow so we saw the doctors quickly and they determined it was crud causing him to have trouble breathing the cool mist oxygen helped clear it up but when the looked further, they found Solon's ears to be really bad infected STILL :-(!  They decided to clear up the infection to give him a big ol' shot :-(!  Solon did pretty well but was pretty sad during the shot.  We fed him there to make sure he didn't get dehydrated and they let us go home after a little observation...
The nurse tech also went to our church and we were so thankful they didn't think we were some crazy parents - it is horrible watching your child gasp for air :-(!
Solon and I stayed home today - he did pretty well this afternoon but tonight he was coughing quite a bit - we have everything going in his room, the humidifier, vick's air thingy, etc.
Hopefully he will continue to heal...we go to the doctor on Monday for a recheck and then to the Ear Nose and Throat Doctor (ENT) on May 13th.  We think it is more and more likely Solon will have to get tubes and at this point we are thinking that might be best - he is SO miserable :-(!
We are so thankful it all turned out fine and that so many people we knew were able to help our little guy out!  Here's to a healthy happy baby boy!!!!
